Opening
Weekend - Getting Ready
What We
Are Doing
Opening weekend for another great summer at
the Ridgeland Forest Swim and Racquet Club is this weekend! While we have
been hard at work getting the pool ready for our opening this Friday, we
have had a few setbacks. One of the filters broke and has to be replaced.
We have the parts on order and will rebuild the filter in the next few days
thanks to the hard work of Jack Dominey, Preston Fletcher, Leon Kavis, Frank
Lloyd and Mike McDowell (to name a few of the many helping hands).
Sadly, our workload has been made heavier by the work of vandals who threw
chairs into the pool, dumped gas in the pool and set it on fire. They also
set fire to the net on one of the tennis courts, ruining both the net and
the court. We have talked with the police and will contact our insurance
agent about filing a claim. If anyone has any information about suspicious
activity on Saturday evening, May 22, please contact me or any other board
member. The board will also discuss actions we might take to reduce the
risk of any future incidents at our next meeting. The actions of these
vandals may jeopardize our ability to open for Memorial Day weekend. We are
keeping Waffle House hours getting ready for our inspection this Thursday
afternoon and trust we can be ready. We will let you know no later than
Thursday evening if the county inspectors discover any issues which may
force us to postpone our opening.
What You
Can Do
There are
always ways you can work off your annual maintenance fees - spreading of
mulch and cutting grass, etc. Those needs last through the whole pool
season. To schedule some work please contact one of the following board
members - Greg Beers, Jack Dominey, Dave Kivett or Alisa Walsh. We also
need your help updating our information. All members are asked to stop by
the Membership Table to verify your family's contact information. If you
have children under 18 years of age, we need to have updated Medical and
Disciplinary Forms on file for them. A volunteer will we available to
assist you. You can also find information about and sign up for upcoming
tennis camps at the welcome table. These above mentioned forms can be
downloaded from our website:
http://www.ridgelandforest.
Beginning after the free Memorial Day weekend, we will begin a new policy
for signing in for members and their guests. A notebook with each family's
name (in alphabetical order) and blank pages for guests will be located on a
table by the lifeguard stand. Members and guests are asked and expected to
sign in each time they visit the pool. Just find your family's page and
sign and date in the space provided.
Opening
Weekend-Having Fun
You should have already received the information about the Ice Cream social
being held in the parking lot of the swim club on Thursday from 7:00 p.m.
-9:00 p.m. Friday, the pool opens at 12:00 p.m. and will stay open until
10:00 p.m. The sign on the corner that says we open at 10:00 a.m. is
incorrect. Friday evening, will be our first of many Open Grill Nights. As
we did last year, please help us stock our pantry with charcoal, lighter
fluid, etc for our frequent "Friday Night" festivities. On Sunday afternoon
at 2:00 p.m. will be our traditional Luau featuring a Bar-B-Q chicken
lunch. Look for more details from the Social Committee in a future email.
The Treasurer will be sending out the 2010 budget along with a reminder to
pay your dues. Other members of the board will also be sending out emails
so be on the look-out for information about upcoming events at your
neighborhood pool and tennis club.
Looking forward to a great summer at the pool, on the courts, and around the
grill (and on our new sand volleyball court).

October 12, 2009 New Officers and Committee Chairs At the transitional board meeting on Monday, October 12th the board elected officers, determined who would serve the two (1) year slots and received their committee assignments. The new officers and committee chairs are as follows: President Dave Kivett Vice- President Jack Dominey Treasurer Scott Whitlock Secretary Tish Drury (1 year term) Membership Pattiann Taylor Pool Frank Lloyd, Jr., Frank Lloyd, Sr. (1 year term) Property Greg Beers Social Kathy Love Tennis Alisa Walsh
Fall Festival Cancelled Because we have had so much rain and the ground is saturated and because so many people who would make up the leadership of the festival will be out of town, the Fall Festival scheduled for Saturday, October 24th has been cancelled. We will look to see if it might become a Spring Fling. The Tennis Task Force will still be hosting a Yard Sale on that day. Look for more information about the time and place coming soon.
We will be serving hot dog "dinners" on Halloween evening, October 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. You can get a hot dog, chips and lemonade for $2. The meal also comes with a complimentary flashlight to help light the way for trick or treat. Come get something to eat before you get into the candy.
Settling Up A handful of our members still owe a portion of their 2009 dues. The treasurer(s) will be contacting you individually in the next few weeks to work out prompt payment. We will continue to encourage all our members to pay in installments ($50 - $100 a month) so that we are paid up by the beginning of the next pool season.
On behalf of the board,
Dave
Kivett
